SHARI DRUMOND

Over the course of this semester, I’ve been able to interact with and learn about all kinds of technology as well as all of the ways that different types of technology can be used to compose. One misconception regarding technology is that it can be somewhat of a distraction however, its ongoing development and evolution has exemplified how technology can be used for so much more than entertainment. There are constant advancements being made in terms of health—of both people and the environment—and how we go about teaching writing. After looking at Montfort’s work (and his intentionally outdated looking website), I was able to take the word “literature” and begin to redefine it. Composition and composition studies has maintained somewhat of a pretentious reputation over the years—when looking at something like literature, which is often considered the very foundation of Western composition—so to know that “electronic literature” is a thing and something that exists is actually really exciting, especially because technology has become such a huge part of our everyday lives in the States. Currently, I’m trying to create a piece of electronic literature that speaks to my many truths as a female minority member. I made a video using iMovie, but it lacks the substance I envisioned it would possess, but I think the project could have a place somewhere else. Ultimately, this course has taught me a lot and introduced interesting ideas to me. Being able to see what my classmates have been working on thus far has given me a push to think outside of the box and start looking into newer technologies to compose. One thing I would like to accomplish in the future is to create a visualizer that syncs with my recital of a poem. We shall see!
